Both devices need to be on the same WiFi network. Download the desktop companion app from homemaderemote.com and launch it. Then open the iPhone app — it will automatically discover your computer using Bonjour. Tap to connect.
Make sure both devices are on the same WiFi network. Check that the desktop companion app is running (you'll see the Homemade Remote icon in your menu bar). If you're on a corporate or public network, local device discovery may be blocked — try a home network instead.
The desktop companion needs Accessibility permission to control your cursor, keyboard, and media playback. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and enable Homemade Remote. You may need to restart the companion app after granting permission.
Media — play/pause, volume, skip tracks, and switch between apps like YouTube and Netflix. Trackpad — move your computer's cursor from the couch, scroll, and click. Terminal — type commands into iTerm2 or Terminal without getting up.
No. Homemade Remote works entirely over your local WiFi. No data is sent to any server, ever. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Download it from homemaderemote.com. It runs on macOS 12 and later. Launch it and you'll see the Homemade Remote icon in your menu bar.
This usually means your WiFi signal is weak between your devices. Try moving closer to your router, or make sure both devices are on the same band (5GHz is faster). Restarting the desktop companion app can also help.
