Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 25, 2026 · Version 1.1
Homemade Remote collects nothing. Every command from your iPhone goes directly to your Mac over your local WiFi network. No data touches our servers — we don't have any. No accounts. No tracking. No analytics. This app is physically incapable of sending your data anywhere except your own Mac.
1. Who We Are
Homemade Remote is developed and operated by Scott Young ("we," "us," or "our"), an independent developer based in the United States. You can reach us at privacy@scottyoung.co.
2. What We Collect
Nothing.
Homemade Remote operates entirely on your local network. When you use the app:
- Commands from your iPhone are sent directly to your Mac over local WiFi
- No command, gesture, keystroke, or interaction is transmitted to us or any third party
- No user account is created or required
- No email address, name, or personal information is collected at any point
- No usage data, crash reports, or analytics are collected
- No cookies are set by this app or this website
The app has no network access beyond your local WiFi. It cannot phone home. There is no home to phone.
3. The Mac Companion App & Accessibility Permission
The Mac companion app requires Accessibility permission in macOS System Settings. This permission allows the app to control your cursor, keyboard input, and media playback on your Mac in response to commands from your iPhone.
This permission is:
- Used solely to execute local control commands received over your WiFi network
- Never used to record your screen, log keystrokes, or access any data on your Mac
- Fully revocable at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
We do not have remote access to your Mac. The Accessibility permission is exercised only when your iPhone sends a command over your local network — never autonomously, never remotely.
4. This Website
The homemaderemote.com website is a static page hosted on GitHub Pages. It does not:
- Use cookies or tracking pixels
- Load third-party analytics scripts
- Collect any visitor information
- Store server-side logs accessible to us
GitHub Pages may collect standard server logs (IP addresses, page requests) as part of their infrastructure. Their privacy practices are governed by GitHub's Privacy Statement.
5. Third-Party Services
The iOS app and Mac companion app do not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. There are no SDKs in the app that collect data.
The iOS app is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple's data practices on the App Store are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
The Mac companion app may include open-source software components, each governed by its own license. These components operate locally on your device and do not collect or transmit data.
6. Data Retention
We retain no data about you because we collect none. There is nothing to delete, export, or access.
If you uninstall the iOS app and/or Mac companion app, there are no accounts to deactivate and no server-side data to remove.
7. Your Rights
We respect your data rights regardless of where you are located. Because Homemade Remote collects no personal data, there is nothing to provide, correct, port, or delete. For completeness, here are your rights under major privacy frameworks:
European Economic Area (GDPR): You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and to non-discrimination for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share personal information.
All users: If you have any questions or believe we have inadvertently collected data, contact us at privacy@scottyoung.co and we will respond within 7 days.
8. Children
Homemade Remote is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. As we collect no data from any user, we are compliant with COPPA by design. If you believe a child has somehow provided personal information to us, contact us immediately and we will take steps to remove it.
9. Security & Incident Response
Homemade Remote is designed with a zero-data architecture. Because no personal data is collected, stored, or transmitted, the attack surface for a data breach is effectively zero.
In the unlikely event that a security vulnerability is discovered in our software or infrastructure that could affect users, we will:
- Publicly disclose the issue within 72 hours of confirmation
- Describe the nature of the vulnerability and any potential impact
- Release a fix or mitigation as quickly as reasonably possible
- Post an update on homemaderemote.com
10. Do Not Track
Homemade Remote honors Do Not Track signals by default — because we do not track anyone in the first place. There is no tracking to disable.
11. Changes to This Policy
If we ever change our data practices — for example, if a future version adds optional analytics — we will update this policy, bump the version number at the top of this page, and (if the change is material) notify users through an in-app notice before the changes take effect.
Our position: we will never sell, rent, or share your data with anyone, under any circumstances.
