Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 7, 2026 · Version 1.3
Homemade Remote collects nothing. Every command from your iPhone goes directly to your computer over your local WiFi network. No data touches our servers — we don't have any. No accounts. No tracking. No analytics. This app is physically incapable of sending your data anywhere except your own computer.
1. Who We Are
Homemade Remote is developed and operated by Scott Young ("we," "us," or "our"), an independent developer based in the United States. You can reach us at privacy@scottyoung.co.
2. What We Collect
Nothing.
Homemade Remote operates entirely on your local network. When you use the app:
- Commands from your iPhone are sent directly to your computer over local WiFi
- No command, gesture, keystroke, or interaction is transmitted to us or any third party
- No user account is created or required
- No email address, name, or personal information is collected at any point
- No usage data, crash reports, or analytics are collected
- No cookies are set by this app or this website
The app has no network access beyond your local WiFi. It cannot phone home. There is no home to phone.
3. System Permissions
The desktop companion app requires Accessibility permission in macOS System Settings. This permission allows the app to control your cursor, keyboard input, and media playback on your computer in response to commands from your iPhone.
The iOS app requests Local Network permission so it can discover your computer on your WiFi network using Bonjour (zero-configuration networking). This is used solely for device discovery — no data leaves your local network.
These permissions are:
- Used solely to execute local control commands and discover devices on your WiFi network
- Never used to record your screen, log keystrokes, or access any data on your devices
- Fully revocable at any time in your device settings
We do not have remote access to your computer or iPhone. Permissions are exercised only when your iPhone sends a command over your local network — never autonomously, never remotely.
4. This Website
The homemaderemote.com website is a static page hosted on GitHub Pages. It does not:
- Use cookies or tracking pixels
- Load third-party analytics scripts
- Collect any visitor information
- Store server-side logs accessible to us
GitHub Pages may collect standard server logs (IP addresses, page requests) as part of their infrastructure. Their privacy practices are governed by GitHub's Privacy Statement.
5. Third-Party Services
The iOS app and desktop companion app do not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. There are no SDKs in the app that collect data.
The iOS app is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple's data practices on the App Store are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
The desktop companion app may include open-source software components, each governed by its own license. These components operate locally on your device and do not collect or transmit data.
6. Local Device Storage
The iOS app may store a small amount of data locally on your device (such as the IP address of your last-connected computer) to improve reconnection. This data never leaves your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
We retain no data about you on any server because we collect none. There is nothing to delete, export, or access on our end. If you uninstall the iOS app and/or desktop companion app, there are no accounts to deactivate and no server-side data to remove.
7. Your Rights
We respect your data rights regardless of where you are located. Because Homemade Remote collects no personal data, there is nothing to provide, correct, port, or delete. For completeness, here are your rights under major privacy frameworks:
European Economic Area (GDPR): You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and to non-discrimination for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share personal information.
All users: If you have any questions or believe we have inadvertently collected data, contact us at privacy@scottyoung.co and we will respond within 7 days.
8. Children
Homemade Remote is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. As we collect no data from any user, we are compliant with COPPA by design.
9. Security
Homemade Remote is designed with a zero-data architecture. Because no personal data is collected, stored, or transmitted, the attack surface for a data breach is effectively zero.
In the unlikely event that a security vulnerability is discovered in our software, we will disclose the issue and release a fix as soon as reasonably practicable.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties & Limitation of Liability
Homemade Remote is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Scott Young shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from your use of or inability to use the app.
11. Governing Law
This privacy policy and any disputes arising from it shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
12. Changes to This Policy
If we ever change our data practices, we will update this policy and bump the version number at the top. Under current ownership, we do not and will not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone.
